OUR APPROACH TO NATURAL PERFUMERY AT 528 UNDERGROUND
Natural perfumery begins with materials that come from the living world: flowers, leaves, roots, woods, seeds, spices, fruits and resins.
Through distillation, expression and extraction, these materials become essential oils, absolutes and botanical extracts. They retain the complexity of their origins and the climate, soil, season and harvest that shaped them. This means natural ingredients are rarely perfectly uniform. Like wine, they can shift subtly from one year to the next.
At 528 UNDERGROUND, these materials form the foundation of our perfumes. We work predominantly with essential oils, botanical extracts, woods and resins because of their depth, movement and connection to the natural world. They do not simply reproduce a smell, they evolve on the skin over time to reveal different facets.
OUR FOUNDATION
Natural materials are our foundation, supported by carefully selected nature-identical ingredients when they improve the balance, stability or performance of a composition. Nature-identical ingredients are perfumery molecules created to replicate specific molecules found in nature or that reproduce facets of natural scents.
These materials are used selectively and intentionally and not to replace the botanical character of our perfumes, but to complete the composition where needed. Our approach is natural-led rather than governed by absolutes. Every ingredient must earn its place through what it brings to the perfume: character, emotion, balance and movement.
Each 528 UNDERGROUND fragrance is handcrafted in small batches in the South of France and infused with a 528 Hz vibration as part of our creative ritual. It reflects the attention and intention we bring to every material, every person and every stage of the process.
THE CONVERSATION
For us, natural perfumery is a conversation between nature and creativity. It means working closely with botanical materials, respecting their complexity, embracing their subtle variations and allowing them to remain alive within the finished perfume.
Nature is where we begin. Honesty is how we continue, and we are continually exploring how we can increase the use of verified natural and certified-organic materials while preserving the character, safety and stability of each perfume. We see this as an ongoing commitment rather than an absolute claim.
